How to Add Video to Your Greeting Card

A short video can make a group greeting card feel even more personal. You can record a message with your camera and microphone, review it and add it directly to the card.

Before you record

Use a device with a working camera and microphone in a browser that supports video recording. Allow Happy Tree Cards to use both when prompted, and close other apps that may be using them.

Record and review your message

Open the card signing link and select Record Video from the editing toolbar. Wait for the live preview, select Record, then select Stop when you have finished. Play the recording to check the picture and sound. Select Discard to make another attempt, or Use Video to upload it to the card.

Recording limits

Keep each recording to 30 seconds or less and under 4 MB. The recorder shows the recording length and file size, and stops automatically when a limit is reached. Keeping messages short helps uploads complete reliably.

Each card also has a plan-based limit for recorded video messages. Personal and Free organisation cards allow two messages; Basic allows three; Pro allows four; and Unlimited allows ten. Remove an existing video message before adding another when a card has reached its limit.

Safety checks and captions

Videos are checked before being added to a card. Unsafe content, or a format that cannot be processed safely, can be rejected. Pro and Unlimited organisation cards can show timed captions when transcript data is available.

Troubleshooting

If no preview appears, allow camera and microphone access in your browser's site permissions, close other apps using those devices, then reopen the recorder. If uploading fails, try a shorter recording, refresh the card or use a current browser on another device. You can still add a written message, signature, image, GIF or sticker when video is unavailable.
